Scope
The Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Training of Trainers course is designed to enhance the training capabilities of participants, enabling them to effectively design and deliver SCBA training programs. This course equips subject matter experts with the essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to become proficient and impactful trainers in the field of SCBA usage and safety.

General Course Objectives:
The objectives of the SCBA-TOT training are that delegates will be able to understand and implement:
  1. Understand the legislation and guidelines for the use of SCBA
  2. Deeply understand the SCBA
  3. Apply current practices in delivering SCBA training
  4. Deliver facilitative skills to promote learner engagement, reflective practice, critical thinking, and skill acquisition.
  5. Show mastery in delivering key training strategies commonly used
  6. Initiate a personal plan of action to strengthen their training and facilitation skill.
Course Content:
  1. Conditions when SCBA will be required
  2. The relevant legislation and guidelines for the use of SCBA
  3. The general components of a SCBA Set
  4. The passage of air through a SCBA Set
  5. The safe working practices and controls while using SCBA
  6. The correct testing and maintenance of the SCBA Set
  7. TOT methodology & micro teaching
    • Preparation
    • Micro teaching & assessment
  8. SCBA familiarizations
  9. Practical exercises:
    • SCBA Familiarizations
    • SCBA donning, testing, and maintenance
    • SCBA practical on field
    • SCBA entry in a confined space
  10. Evaluation

Prerequisites: Valid Medical Certificate from Doctor/Clinic.

Certificate:
All persons who successfully complete the course based on the performance standards will receive
  • A PT Samson Tiara certificate for Training of Trainers Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA-TOT);
  • A laminated wallet course qualification card.
