Scope
Ensuring safety in the laboratory is of great importance, particularly when handling chemicals. Various hazards must be considered and mitigated, including the use, mixing, storage, misuse, and disposal of chemical substances. Adhering to laboratory safety protocols is essential to minimise health risks, prevent property damage, and avoid accidents. This training course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to safely manage chemicals in the laboratory, fostering a safer and more efficient working environment.

General Course Objectives:
The aim and objectives of the Laboratory Safety training program are to ensure that the participants are able to:
  1. Care for, maintain, and organise the laboratory.
  2. Identify various risk factors that exist in the laboratory.
  3. Understand the handling of materials and waste in the laboratory.
  4. Carry out safe work procedures in the laboratory.
  5. Understand administrative management in the laboratory.
  6. Understand procedures and the handling of emergencies.

  1. Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) in the Laboratory
  2. Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)
  3. MSDS and labelling management
  4. Identification and potential hazards in the laboratory
  5. Laboratory management
  6. Laboratory design and layout
  7. Laboratory layout system
  8. Air circulation ventilation system
  9. Safety culture
  10. PPE in the laboratory
  11. Laboratory ergonomic applications
  12. Preparation and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) in the Laboratory
  13. Monitor exposure to hazardous chemicals
  14. Checking and monitoring workers' health
  15. Laboratory Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) audit
  16. Evaluation of the laboratory Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) system
  17. Argon gas handler
  18. Handling emergencies in the Hazardous and toxic materials Laboratory and first aid (chemical spills, handling broken chemical bottles, etc.)

Prerequisites: Valid Medical Certificate from Doctor/Clinic.

All persons who successfully complete the course based on the performance standards will receive

  • A laminated wallet course qualification card.
