7 Tips for Working Safely With Ladders

7 Tips For Working Safely With Ladders

Working at height can be dangerous or, in the worst case, even deadly. According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), workers who are six feet or more above the ground are at high risk for serious injury or death if they fall. Based on a WHO Report in 2016, falls from height are the second leading cause of accidental or unintentional injury & deaths worldwide. The study highlighted that approximately 20% of fall related injuries among construction workers involved a ladder and half of those accidents were due to people carrying items as they climbed.

Many people may not consider ladder safety to be a major issue, but the statistics clearly show that anyone working with a latter should consider the important safety aspects that may save them from injury or death. Ladders come in variety of shapes, sizes, and materials. There are portable wood ladders and metal ladders, also platform ladders, Trestle ladders, and many more. Each type of ladder has its own strengths and weaknesses and thus each may have different risk assessments and safety guidance. However, the most important thing to understand about working with a ladder is when you can use it; which is where the work is light and short, entailing no more than 30 minutes in one position. Congratulations To Wild Geese Group For OPITO PMIC-IR Approvals

Samson Tiara would like to congratulate our training partners, Wild Geese Group, on their successful approval for the new OPITO Plant Manager Incident Commander Initial Response course. The successful audit between 20th and 22nd of March this year makes Wild Geese Group the first in the world to obtain approval for this course.

This new PMIC training standard provides underpinning knowledge and understanding of the key factors of preparing for, responding to and maintaining control throughout the development or escalation of an emergency situation. The delegates will learn how to manage communication, emergency-related information and put into place predetermined plans at the point when the emergency alarm has been raised, to the point when the Plant Manager is assured that the emergency is over. Delegates will also understand how stress can impact on individuals and team performances during emergencies.

Samson Tiara will be seeking approval for this course in the coming months and we looking forward to offering this course in the very near future.

What Do You Look for in a Training Provider?

When planning on engaging in safety training for the Oil & Gas industry, what factors do you consider?  Is it Location, Facilities, Quality, Experience, Price, Accreditation, or Safety? On their own, each of these factors has great merit, but when it comes to training they are, in fact, closely linked together. If we examine them in turn we will find that it is hard to have one without the other, especially those related in the Oil & Gas industry where safety is a very important aspect.

Safety should always be of paramount concern when selecting training, it may be cliché but you must always ensure there is the highest possible level of safety when participating in training. Depending on the type of training you are engaging in there will always be some level of risk, after all, you are being trained to work in hazardous environments and survive dangerous situations. While participating in training these dangers are much less than they may be in a real situation, and can be mitigated, but they do exist.
